The method of Pilates was founded by Joseph Pilates and has been developed and practiced since the 1920s, it is based around six fundamental principles:
Breathing
Centering
Concentration
Control
Flow
Precision
Pilates is a low impact mat-based form of exercise and using the six fundamental principles it focuses on strengthening the core and ensuring the correct alignment and posture of the body.
Pilates helps with the body’s mobility and blood flow and is a great practice on its own or also to compliment other forms of higher impact exercise as well as helping towards injury prevention and aiding rehabilitation.
Pilates has many variations allowing it to lend itself well to all abilities and levels, movements are also generally slow and controlled creating a calm peaceful and achievable practice.
